I had the pleasure of tasting a small selection of the carefully curated wines composing our next online “wine o’clock” auction #103. Let's take a closer look together!

J'ai eu le plaisir de déguster une petite sélection des vins soigneusement sélectionnés pour notre prochaine vente « wine o’clock » n° 103. Regardons-les de plus près ensemble !

Lot 34
Comte Georges de Vogüe, Musigny Blanc 1992
A rare wine, produced in small quantities, offering a unique opportunity to taste one of the final vintages before the vines were uprooted in 1994!

What we have here is a rather unusual expression of Chardonnay, with a nose combining notes of white fruits — from Williams pear to peach — accompanied by aromas reminiscent of beeswax and honey.

A sharp minerality brings an astonishing freshness for a wine of this age. The palate is complex without being cloying, with all the wine’s opulence held in check by a solid underlying structure.


Un vin rare, produit en faible quantité, offrant l’occasion de déguster un des derniers millésimes avant l’arrachage des ceps en 1994 !

On déguste ici une expression assez insolite du Chardonnay, au nez alliant des notes de fruits blancs allant de la poire William à la pêche, accompagnées par des arômes rappelant la cire d’abeille, le miel…

La minéralité tranchante vient ramener une fraîcheur déconcertante pour son âge. La bouche est complexe sans être écœurante, et toute l’opulence de ce vin est contenue par une vraie structure.

Rayas 2010
We are tasting here a wine with a clearly identifiable signature, centered around blood orange and rose petals supported by subtle spices […] Some signs of evolution are noticeable, with empyreumatic notes, dried fruits, and slightly kirsch-like red fruits.

Despite what its appearance may suggest, this is a powerful wine, with a subtle balance between delicacy and aromatic depth. The palate is intense yet unextracted. This wine will fully expressing itself through a long, lingering finish. A wine that is ready to drink.

 
On retrouve ici un vin emblématique à la patte clairement identifiable autour de l’orange sanguine, des pétales de roses soutenues par des épices légers. Quelques notes d’évolution sont perceptibles sur l’empyreumatique, les fruits secs et fruits rouges légèrement kirschés.

Il s’agit d’un vin puissant contrairement à ce que sa robe laisse deviner, dont l’équilibre subtil se situe entre délicatesse et profondeur aromatique, bouche puissante mais sans extraction, s’exprimant pleinement sur la longueur. Un vin prêt à boire.

Lot 172
Domaine Tempier, Bandol "Cabassaou" 2008
The nose opens with noble vegetal notes of garrigue and blackcurrant leaves, accompanied by hints of liquorice and a slight roasted aroma.

If you wait a moment, the wine continues to evolve in the glass, giving way to a sweetness brought out by black fruits such as black cherry and plum.

The palate is seductive and warm, and its finely-grained tannins make this a silky wine that still has good ageing potential.


Le nez s’ouvre sur un végétal noble, aux notes de garrigue, de feuilles de cassis, qu’accompagnent des touches plus réglissées allant jusqu’à une légère torréfaction.

Pour peu que l’on attende un instant, le vin évolue sans cesse dans le verre, pour laisser place à une douceur ramenée par des fruits noirs, comme la cerise noire, la prune… L

a bouche est séduisante et chaleureuse et ses tannins d’une grande finesse en font un vin soyeux qui possède encore un bon potentiel de garde.

Conducted by Anthony Charmetant and Mathieu Escoffier from Ma Cuisine* Singapore, the wine & dine experience will be composed of  a 10 vintages vertical of the illustrious "La Romanée" (from 1998 to 1906), commented by Philippe Prost, ambassador for Bouchard Père & Fils.

On this special occasion, a star Michelin's menu paired with the tasting notes of the vintages will be concocted by Chef Mathieu Escoffier and his team. 

After this special dinner, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy and participate live to the "La Romanée Memories 1862 —2005" auction held simultaneously at Beau-Rivage , in order to experience the auction as if they were in the auction room in Geneva.

Wine is unquestionably the nectar that enables a discovery of the past while fully living the present. For this reason, on April 16, 2021, we invite you to celebrate history by “ awakening ” a number of bottles, some of them more than a century old, during a unique moment. For 24 hours, the world of the famous Maison Bouchard Père & Fils will open its doors to you: that of the château as well as that of its exceptional expertise.

Calling all great epicureans in love with Burgundy. This trip starts at the Château de Beaune with a vertical tasting of the famous “ La Romanée ” from 1998 to 1865, through ten vintages commented by Philippe Prost, Bouchard Père & Fils ambassador. To mark the occasion, a menu paired with the tasting notes of the vintages will be created by three Michelin-starred chefs Michel, César and Léo Troisgros and their team.

Saturday morning brings the departure for the vineyards of the famous Chevalier-Montrachet terraces and a tasting of seven  white Grands Crus,, after which we will enjoy a convivial picnic in the heart of the vineyards, as a further reminder that wine is above all an elixir for sharing.

The happy problem of drinking any bottle of Domaine Prieuré Roch is its immediate readiness and satisfaction anytime anywhere. He attracts all kinds of wine lovers and converts a lot of people into wine lovers. The first bottle of Prieuré Roch converts me is Nuits-St-Georges Clos des Corvees 1999. It does not have the cold tannin atypical in the appellation. On the contrary, its floral aroma and fine texture quickly locks me down. The unique blood orange flavors from this climats always stays in my mind.

“The happy problem of drinking…”

Philosophy can never be separated from a wine but lives as the soul. I love what belated Henry Frédéric Roch and Yannick Champ defines the vigneron as – a manager of a natural process. As in I-Ching's philosophy, we listen to nature and cooperate with Nature’s will. The symbol of the Domaine borrows from the wine-making hieroglyph of ancient Egypt. Mr Henry-Frédéric Roch had found in the composition of this hieroglyph a true expression of the values which he intended to carry high whilst developing culture and vinification according to entirely ‘natural’ methods, certainly very ‘avant-garde’ in Burgundy. I am not sure I understand the God all the times but I am sure that the Domaine is listening closely with good understanding to show us grapes lovely nature.

“We listen to nature and cooperate with Nature’s will…”

Proper breathing is a key to unlock the truth in great wines. We had a focus tasting recently. Two Corvées 1999 showed differently with 3 hours difference in breathing duration and the one with more breathing has more black fruits. Goillotte 1999 is similar to a Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots without proper breathing. Clos de Bèze 2005 is a powerful giant that composes of all perfect components in perfect balance. You would just drink it without any hesitation even without enough breathing.

Amazingly, I had Bèze Pure 2005 two months ago and it is a completely different wine. Pinoterie Pure 2017 is a combination of different climats with perfectly ripe grapes detached themselves from the stem while on the ‘table de tri’. Its concentration and proximity to fresh grape juice is the character. Clos de Vougeot is the one who shows more weather driven style than other climats. Vougeot 2001 showed more sour cherry character like Vosne-Romanée while Vougeot 2014 is as round and dense as Clos de Bèze.

Large formats of Domaine Prieuré Roch is absolutely rare. I have the luck to appreciate two magnums this year, Vosne-Romanée Clos Goillotte 2006 and 2011. The Goillotte 2006 magnum was a giant in front of Pétrus 75 not just in size but in depth. It is the memorable experience that Goillotte can expand into a wide spectrum of fruits and spices in a very subtle and steady manner. It is exactly like a modest professor that never shows off but can always teach you the meaning of life. A comparison between Goillotte 2011 magnum and Comte Liger Belair Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 2002 magnum over six hours marathon showed that Goillotte 2011 changed from a shy boy to a steady and confident young adult while Aux Reignots was very silky and danced with ballet around him.
