The last 12 months have demonstrated the resilience of the fine wine market and affirmed Baghera/wines’ position at the heart of this continuously changing industry and as the link between the winemaker and the obligatory ultimate destination of every bottle tasted and shared. In 2022, all sales included, Baghera/wines will have made just over CHF 10 million. 

In 2023, we look forward to having you join us in Geneva at all the great sales and rare tastings that will take place at our live auctions and events. Our Kipling live-streamed sales from Club 1865 will allow everyone to continue enjoying our quarterly sales from the comfort of their living rooms. Our auctions continue to be hugely popular thanks to the adrenalin they generate, but our private sales are also extraordinarily successful, with a spectacular acceleration over the last six months of the year. Baghera/wines is also proud to have supported the Geneva Red Cross last spring in a charity action organized in support of the Ukrainian people.

The live auctions season started strong on April 18th with the historic "La Romanée Bouchard 1862-2005" event, fetching chf 9,6M ($ 10,5M), selling every lot on average at four times their pre-sale estimate and witnessing the highest price achieved for a wine lot in 2021 with the monumental La Romanée Bouchard 1865, 12 bottles alone realizing chf 1,9M ($ 2,1M).

On June 20th, Baghera/wines hosted the impressive "Burgundy Fields Forever" auction which included many rare Burgundy gems, featuring the private collection of Henri Jayer's eldest daughter Lydie. This joyful Bourgogne celebration netted chf 6,6M ($ 7,2M) and set a large number of market price records among the Henri Jayer lots and other iconic winegrowers featured in the sale, like these rare Chambertin Armand Rousseau 1959, 3 magnums selling for chf 400k ($ 430k), nine times their pre-sale projection.

Earlier in the month, Baghera/wines presented wine connoisseur Alberto Lee's Swiss collection of unrivaled Burgundy and Bordeaux wines at Beau-Rivage Genève on December 5th. Titled "The Provenance", the 121 lots collection largely exceeded its presale forecast making chf 8,5M ($ 9,2M) under the hammer of auctioneer Michael Ganne, an enthusiastic response to wine of impeccable quality and unequivocal provenance. The star lot of the auction, Vosne-Romanée Cros-Parantoux 2000, 6 magnums sold for chf 370k ($ 405k) while the René Engel wines soared to new heights, tripling their estimated prices.

Lot 14, the "Kingdoms" by Baghera/wines star lot and the only one of its kind in the world, consisting of a set of six large-format Methuselah (6L) bottles from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, sold to a Swiss buyer for CHF 900,000 – thus becoming the most expensive wine sold in 2020.

Lot 13, a set of six large-format Jeroboam (3L) bottles from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti sold for CHF 408,000.

The first 14 lots of the sale, all from the Enoteca Pinchiorri collection, lots 1 to 14, fetched a total of CHF 1.8 million.

Wines from the Domaines Prieuré-Roch and Bizot in particular were the subject of fierce bidding and the prices achieved by each lot show growing interest among the great enthusiasts of Côte-de-Nuits terroirs.

The Chartreuses collection attracted intense interest from buyers due to its quality and the historical character of the 120 bottles. Known as a niche product for well-informed connoisseurs, Chartreuse liqueurs become increasingly important in recent years among lovers of rare spirits, with all the lots offered in "Kingdoms" fetching more than double their conservative estimate.
